The ADB has stated that the grant includes US$ 25 million loan as additional funding for the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Health Security Project.

It will promote laboratory services and infection control monitoring at 81 district referral hospitals across the country. It will improve disease surveillance and response systems, control the outbreaks of COVID-19 and follow-up sources at provincial and district central health agencies.

The Asian Development Bank will also provide US$ 5 million grant from the Japanese Government's Japan Fund for poverty reduction to improve emergency care services in 14 provincial hospitals. It includes funding for new equipment such as ambulances, oxygen generators and oxygen therapy equipment, as well as training of health workers in Covid-19.

Mr.Rikard Elfving, ADB's senior social specialist, said in a statement: The COVID-19 epidemic is putting significant pressure on the Cambodian economy and threatening efforts to reduce poverty and human development.

This project will strengthen the public health system as well as emerging public health threats, reduce health and social impacts, and indirectly contribute to poverty reduction.
