CAMBODIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ATTENDS 6TH MINISTERIAL MEETING OF CONFERENCE ON INTERACTION AND CONFIDENCE BUILDING MEASURES VIA VIDEOCONFERENCE

The Cambodian top diplomat has highly commended the process of cooperation of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures – CICA in contribution to peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Prak Sokhon, affirmed this in his key address via videoconference at the 6th ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia held in Nur-Sultan, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 12, 2021.

The Cambodian Foreign Minister also spoke of the Covid-19 and its impacts on the global peace and prosperity and international order. He shared recommendations on sustainable and resilient development after the Covid-19 crisis. The 6th ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures was held under the theme: Security and Sustainable Development in Asia in the new World Reality after the Spread of the Contagious Diseases. The Meeting provided the opportunity for all the participants to compare notes on further strengthening of CICA cooperation, especially the post-Covid 19 restoration and the enhancement of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Established in 1999, the CICA is an intergovernmental forum aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring peace, security, and stability in Asia. The idea of creating the organization was first voiced by Kazakhstan’s First President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1992 at the 47th session of the United Nations General Assembly, while the first CICA summit was held in June of 2002. CICA members include 27 Asian countries, nine observer states, and five international organizations.

In September, 2020, Kazakhstan assumed the chairmanship of CICA.
