Samdech Techo Hun Sen: Cambodia to organize a Kathina procession to Khmer Buddhist pagodas in the Southern part of Vietnam

Cambodia is scheduled to organize a Kathina procession to Khmer Buddhist pagodas in the Southern part of Vietnam.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Senate President and President of the Cambodian People's Party said on his official Facebook on Monday, October 7, 2024, that the the Kathina would start on November 4th 2024, with a Buddhist ritual organized at the headquarters of the Cambodian People’s Party in Phnom Penh on the evening of November 3.

Samdech Techo Huin Sen further said that his wife, Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen has thought about organizing the Kathina to Buddhist pagodas of ethic Khmer people known as Khmer Krom living in Southern Vietnam since 2012.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen further said that the Cambodian People's Party, the Royal Government, the National Assembly, the Senate and other national institutions would jointly organize the ceremony. He said that the organization was named the Great Solidarity of Khmer family as Khmer Loeu, Khmer Kandal and Khmer Krom are all Khmer people, and all political parties can join together.

The Royal Government of Cambodia has formed a commission in charge of organizing the Kathina.

The commission is headed by Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An, Member of the Supreme Privy Council to the King.

Kathina, one of the biggest Buddhist festivals in Cambodia, falls this year from October 18 to November 15, 2024. During this period of twenty-nine days, Cambodian people of all social backgrounds jointly contribute their donations, materials or cash, for the Buddhist monks to use for the purpose of the development of their respective pagodas or communities.
