Cambodia will commemorate the 71st anniversary of the National Independence day 1953-2024

The Cambodian people throughout the country joyfully celebrate the Independence Day on November 9 every year.

It is the day when Cambodia achieved its independence from FrenchaColonial Rule in 1953. With his crusade for independence, the late KingNorodom Sihanouk gained independence for Cambodia from French colonialists in 1953.

This year, 2024 is the 71st anniversary of the Independence Day.

The event is observed with military parade in front of the Royal Palace in the capital of Phnom Penh.

His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia is on the podium to greet the parade with senior officials of the Senate, the National Assembly and the government.

The military parade in front of the royal palace follows the mass gathering at the Independence Monument, where senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps of foreign Embassies in Cambodia and students converge to mark the landmark event. His Majesty the King together with senior officials of the Senate, the National Assembly and the government also join the mass at the Independence Monument, where His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni lights the Victory Flame, which is put out by the king on November 11.

On the evening of November 9, ministers and senior officials from all the ministries and institutions lay wreathes at the Independence Monument and at the Royal Memorial Statue of the late King Norodom Sihanouk. Firework display begins at 7 am in front of the royal palace for three days from November 9 to 11.
