Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology calls on China to invest in Cambodia’s water infrastructure

H.E Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology has called on China to invest in Cambodia’s water infrastructure to support agricultural productivity, strengthen weather forecasting and flood prevention systems, and strengthen water governance and transboundary water cooperation.

The call was made when H.E Thor Chetha held bilateral meeting with Minister of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China, H.E Li Guoyingat the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on the morning of March 17, 2025.

H.E Thor Chetha reaffirmed the strong Cambodia-China friendship and long-term cooperative partnership, especially in water resources management, to contribute to sustainable development in Cambodia.

The Minister reaffirmed his stance on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and pledged to strengthen the Diamond Cooperation Framework to build a Cambodia-China community of shared future with high quality, high level and high standards.

The Minister briefed the delegation on the mission of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology in ensuring water security, sustainable water development and management for multiple sectors, especially the development and maintenance of irrigation systems to support agricultural productivity, strengthening weather forecasting and flood protection systems, and strengthening water governance and transboundary water cooperation, in line with the first phase pentagonal strategy of the Royal Government of the 7th mandate, headed by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia. He also expressed deep thanks to the people and government of the People's Republic of China, who are indispensable partners in Cambodia's development through their full support in various sectors, including the water resources sector and this cooperation has helped Cambodia's progress towards achieving its vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050.
