On Monday, March 24, 2025, H.E Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a high-level delegation to attend the 3rd Mekong-Korea International Water Forum 2025 under the theme “Strengthening Climate Resilience and Sustainable Water Management” in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.
The 3rd Mekong-Korea International Water Forum 2025 was held from March 24 and 25, organized by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Mekong Water Center (KOMEC), with the aim of providing an opportunity to discuss and address various issues related to water management and climate resilience, and promoting partnership and cooperation in sustainable development in the Mekong region.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, the Minister said that Cambodia has set a mission and a clear vision in the field of water resources and hydrology to ensure water security for sustainable development in all sectors, support quality livelihoods and well-being, and environmental sustainability, and has actively participated in efforts to improve transboundary water management and cooperation in the Mekong region, towards achieving sustainable development and shared prosperity, contributing to peace and stability in the region.
The Minister affirmed his commitment to work with Korea, all Mekong countries, and other partners to strengthen cooperation, joint efforts, and partnership at a new level to achieve common goals.
The Mekong-Korea International Water Forum (MKWF) is an important meeting for good cooperation in the water sector between the Republic of Korea and the Mekong region, which began in 2022 with the participation of the five Mekong countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
