Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol: China’ assistance to Cambodia has contributed to Cambodia’s economic development and strengthened political independence

The First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia stated that the financing and other assistance provided by Chinese friends to Cambodia has contributed significantly to supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development and strengthening Cambodia’s political independence.

H.E Sun Chanthol, who is also Deputy Prime Minister made the remarks when he presided over the inauguration ceremony of the construction site of BYD CAMBODIA company’s car assembly plant in Preah Sihanouk Province, on April 28, 2025.

H.E Sun Chanthol said that the fruitful results of the meeting between the top leaders of the two countries, Cambodia and China, would continue to strengthen the diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China as comprehensive strategic partners and iron-clad friends, and achieve the building of a Cambodia-China community of shared future in a new era with high quality, high level and high standards. He added that the two countries would continue to strengthen strategic mutual trust, fruitful cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and closer multilateral cooperation, creating a new model of international relations and a community of shared future for mankind.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol said that in the context of the construction and development of transport infrastructure in Cambodia, China has been the first country to provide concessional loans and grants totaling more than US$3 billion, and with the assistance, a total of nearly 4,000 kilometers of roads, including 16 major bridges with a total length of more than 14,000 meters, have been built in Cambodia.
