Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, said that a nation must own its national issues and when it loses control of its own destiny, it will suffer disintegration and disaster

Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the point when he was invited to make a lecture at a seminar on “Perspectives and Experiences of Peacebuilding Efforts in Cambodia” organized by the ASEAN and East Asia Economic Institute in Indonesia on Tuesday May 6, 2025.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen went on to say that the international community must work together to protect the existing peace rather than seek or build a lost peace.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed that war is indeed easy to make, but to end the war it took Cambodia nearly 30 years.

The President of the Cambodian Senate further said that even if peace is achieved, peace will not last long without national unification, reconciliation, justice, and sustainable and inclusive development. He added that through Cambodia’s experience, all must strive to find ways to ensure lasting peace and firmly anchor it in society through reconciliation and national unification.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted the importance of fostering a “culture of dialogue” in Cambodia’s political culture, as Cambodia has gone through cycles of brutal violence, frequent regime changes by undemocratic means, and constant retaliation.
