Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia has instructed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to further consider the development of wastewater treatment infrastructure in major urban areas and downtowns in line with population growth and the country’s progress.
The instruction was made when Samdech ThipadeiPrime Minister, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the Takhmao City Wastewater Treatment System Development Project” on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
The Cambodian Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to continue working closely with relevant ministries, institutions, local authorities, and development partners to promote the study and preparation of a master plan for the development of wastewater treatment and treatment systems in major cities and towns, ensuring consistency with the development of physical infrastructure there.
In addition, the Cambodian Prime Minister also instructed the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to jointly study and assess the feasibility of developing wastewater treatment and wastewater treatment systems under the public-private partnership mechanism to accelerate development, increase management efficiency, reduce risks, and promote the use of highly innovative technologies.
He added that the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has to continue to work closely with relevant ministries, institutions, local authorities, and development partners to continue to widely disseminate understanding of the benefits and new lifestyles, and promote changes in the behavior of local people in using wastewater treatment systems and sewage systems properly by mobilizing citizens to participate in connecting their residential sewage networks to public sewage networks.
