Cambodian Minister of Information expresses position in promoting media cooperation in the region and the world

The Minister of Information of Cambodia affirmed his commitment to effectively and efficiently promoting media cooperation in the region and the world.

Speaking at the 17th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday May 7, 2025, His Excellency Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information of Cambodia, presented a series of initiatives to help promote the role of the media. The Minister proposed the strengthening of ASEAN Center for media content exchange, the expansion of digital literacy and media resilient program, the creation of youth media lab, the development of regional relation framework during crisis and the strengthening of cross-border efforts to fight fake news.

The Cambodian Minister of Information called on the meeting to consider the development of the structure of an ASEAN media working group to prioritize the efforts against fake news.  His Excellency Neth Pheaktra said Cambodia has been ready to share experience in preparing reports of the state of press freedom and asked the ASEAN member states to consider developing reports of the state of press freedom in the region to showcase the present environment of the press freedom  in the individual countries.

On the sidelines of the 17th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information, the Cambodian Minister of Information held talks with His Excellency San Lwin, Seputy Secretary General of ASEAN, Her Excellency Fifi Aleyda Yahya, Director General of Public Communication and Media of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of Indonesia, Her Excellency Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communication of Malaysia, His Excellency Le Hai Binh, Permanent Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and Mr. Poon Homg Yuen, Deputy Direcotr General of the Digital Development Ministry of Singapaore.

All parties to the meetings share their perspectives of promoting cooperation in the information and broadcasting sector and expressed their readiness to work together in optimizing the advancement of technology in service of the information sector.
