Cambodia and Canada have looked at more ways of strengthening their bilateral trade cooperation.
This mention was made during a meeting between Her Excellency Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and Ms. Sara Wilshaw, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister of International Trade and Trade Commissioner of Canada, in Phnom Penh on Wednesday May 28, 2025.
The two sides agreed that the trade cooperation would be strengthened by boosting ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement negotiations based on the principles of a rules-based multilateral trading system.
The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening Cambodia-Canada bilateral trade cooperation through the exchange of business missions, promoting the negotiation of an ASEAN-Canada FTA, based on the principles of a rules-based multilateral trading system.
On the same day, Her Excellency Cham Nimul also met with Mr. Dominic Jacques, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Canada and representative of the Canada-ASEAN Business Council.
The two sides discussed and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation to promote the Cambodia-Canada business sector to further develop through business matching and the establishment of a private business center in Canada.
The Minister highlighted Cambodia's efforts to create a business and investment environment in Cambodia and encouraged Canadian investors to continue to invest in Cambodia, as Cambodia has been a potential location for expanding business networks in the region.
The Minister also briefed the Canadian business delegation on Cambodia’s trade and investment potential, highlighting the favorable investment environment and broad market through bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements of which Cambodia has been a member.
