Cambodia has solemnly observed the National Environment Day and World Environment Day

A royal ceremony was held at the Morodok Techo National Stadium on the northern outskirts of Phnom Penh on Thursday, June 5, 2025 under the patronage of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E Eang Sophallet, Minister of the Ministry of Environment, said that the celebration of the "National and World Environment Day" on June 5, 2025, has been an expression of the spirit of solidarity and strong cooperation in implementing environmental protection activities in order to achieve the environmental cycle strategy in response to the first phase pentagonal strategy and the recommendations of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister. He further said that the event aimed to raise awareness about the environment and to encourage the public to actively participate in environmental protection, plastic waste management so as to jointly keep the planet clean, green, and sustainable for the benefit of society and humanity for all generations. The ceremony will be followed by exhibition to showcase the achievements and products of ministries, institutions, companies, and partner organizations in the environmental development sector from June 6 to 8, 2025. Established by the United Nations in 1972 during the Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, the World Environment Day has been observed by Cambodia since 1993.   The National Environment Day is enshrined in the Environment and Natural Resources Code, which was promulgated on June 29 2023 by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The ceremony was also attended by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia and Chairman of the Supreme Council Privy to the King, Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and many other senior officials

The National Environment Day and the World Environment Day was organized on June 5, 2025 under the theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
