Cambodia has been committed to joining the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, reaffirmed the strong commitment to becoming a party to the Agreement in his key address at the 3rd UN Ocean Conference held in Nice, France.
The Prime Minister said that Cambodia would take the next step in demonstrating its commitment by signing the BBNJ Agreement, and would promote transparency in sharing monetary and non-monetary benefits in the implementation of the Agreement with cooperative and protective actions.
The Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia called for bold, united and decisive actions for the sea, for the people and for future generations.
The Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement is a new important convention under the United Nations to protect biodiversity in the public sea that crosses the borders of any country.
The Agreement or the High Seas Treaty was adopted on June 19, 2023.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet led a high-level delegation of Cambodia to attend the 3rd UN Ocean Conference, which was held in Nice, France, from June 9 to 11, 2025, under the theme “Accelerating Action and Mobilizing All Actors for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Ocean”.
