H.E Jean-François Tan, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, in charge of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation briefed the result of the participation of the Cambodian Prime Minister at the 3rd United Nations Conference on Oceans in Nice, France at a press conference at the Phnom Penh International Airport on Thursday July 12.

On June 11, the Cambodian Prime Minister highlighted Cambodia’s strong commitment to becoming a party to the Convention on the Boundary of Natural Resources Beyond National Sovereignty, which was adopted on June 19, 2023, and stated that Cambodia would take the next step in demonstrating its commitment by signing the Boundary of Natural Resources Beyond National Sovereignty Agreement.
The Minister Delegate told local media that Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister also expressed his commitment to strengthening national capacity to protect the sea by expanding marine protected areas, strengthening regulations on sustainable fisheries management, and strengthening national initiatives to combat marine pollution.
The Cambodian Prime Minister stressed that Cambodia has been continuing to protect its seas by expanding its marine protected areas, that means, Cambodia has started protecting its seas from now on, said H.E Jean-François Tan.
According to His Excellency Jean-François Tan, the Premier also called on the international community to provide significant technical and financial assistance to developing countries to build capacity for marine conservation and sustainable resource management, including ensuring access to science and sustainable fisheries management practices.
