Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s position in resolving the border issues with Thailand through legal mechanisms.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen on July 1, 2025 met with H.E Nagashima Akihisa, member of the National Assembly and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, , at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.
Senate spokesman H.E Chea Thirith said that after the meeting Samdech Techo Hun Sen briefed the Japanese Prime Minister's special advisor on the current situation at the border between Cambodia and Thailand.
The President of the Senate said that the tense situation has started with the shooting of Thai soldiers at Cambodian troops stationed at the border area, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier, on May 28, 2025.
He further said that since then the Thai side has continued with the unilateral decision to close the border crossings and checkpoints.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also told the Japanese special advisor that what Cambodia needs is to promote a peaceful resolution, namely through international legal mechanisms, that means through the International Court of Justice.
