The World Bank is committed to continuing its long-term partnership with Cambodia by strengthening cooperation on support and strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as education, health, and agriculture.
The commitment was made when the World Bank Vice President, Ms Manuela V. Ferro, paid a courtesy call on Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, on Monday, July 7th, at the Peace Palace.
Ms Manuela V. Ferro expressed her deep appreciation for Cambodia’s strengths and potential. Even in a context of global uncertainty, Cambodia has maintained a resilient economy that has been built on a solid foundation over the past 20 years, this has made Cambodia a country with dynamic development. In fact, during the COVID-19 crisis, Cambodia has become a leading country in successfully combating the pandemic.
She affirmed that the World Bank is committed to continuing its long-term partnership with Cambodia by strengthening cooperation on various supports and strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as: education, health, and agriculture.
She continued to say that to boost economic growth, Cambodia should strengthen partnerships between the private sector and the government, and strengthen the capacity of potential sectors including: energy, agriculture, agro-industry, infrastructure development, and strengthen connectivity to regional and global markets through existing bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the World Bank for its contribution to Cambodia’s socio-economic development and highlighted the vision and key policies of the Royal Government and the 7th mandate to ensure resilient and sustainable development.
The Cambodian Prime Minister encouraged the World Bank to continue to cooperate more closely with relevant ministries and institutions, aiming to strengthen and expand cooperation and partnerships.
