The Cambodian Prime Minister: The implementation of military conscription will help improve the efficiency of the army

Addressing a ceremony to inaugurate several facilities at the Chum Sen Military Police Training Center and to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the Military Police Day (July 14, 1993-July 14, 2025), on Monday, July 14th, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, ordered the 2006 Military Conscription Law to be implemented by 2026.

He said that the training period had to be increased from 18 months (in the 2006 law) to 24 months.

The Cambodian Prime Minister said that in terms of current budget capabilities, combined with the management situation, the 2006 Military Conscription Law had to be amended so that so as it would be implemented by 2026.

The Prime Minister said that the implementation of military conscription will help improve the efficiency of the army.

According to the 2006 Law on Military Conscription, Chapter 1, Section 2, all Cambodian citizens of both sexes, aged 18 to 30, must perform military service as prescribed by law, and the military service of all Cambodian citizens of all genders must be voluntary, with military service lasting 18 months from the date of entry into service.

From 2026 onwards, the military conscription law will be implemented, which is the commitment of the Royal Government.
