Cambodian National Assembly President: All have to restore and enhance open multilateralism as ASEAN plays an increasingly important role

Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, said that all must restore and enhance open and inclusive multilateralism as ASEAN plays an increasingly important role in this regard.

The Cambodian National Assembly President made the remarks, when she met with heads of foreign delegations before the opening of the 16th AIPA Caucus Meeting at the National Assembly Palace, July 15, 2025.

She further said that ASEAN has been a beacon of peace, stability and prosperity.

The President of the National Assembly continued to say that “As the global order is becoming more unstable and is evolving into a multipolar world, ASEAN needs to play a more important role in shaping an evolving international system that is more just, inclusive and representative.

The President of the National Assembly stressed that the theme of the 16th AIPA Caucus is to further discuss and seek understanding and perspectives from AIPA member parliaments and partners to serve the interests of their respective citizens.

She stressed that this is a collective effort and leadership in promoting parliamentary diplomacy for peace in the region and the world.

The Cambodian Parliament is hosting the 16th AIPA Political Group Meeting under the theme “Peace through Dialogue: The Way Forward for Parliaments” from July 14 to 17 2025 at the National Assembly Palace with the participation of leaders, members of the Senate, the National Assembly, the Royal Government, and delegations of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), AIPA observer countries, and guest countries and development partners, totaling nearly 300 participants.
