Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Her Excellency Maria Fernanda Lay, President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, on July 15, 2025, met to discuss strengthening and expanding parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 16th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Caucus held in Phnom Penh from July 14 to 17, 2025.
The two sides were ready for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two national assemblies on expanding people-to-people relations, including direct flights between the two countries and promoting trade.
The two National Assembly Speakers highly appreciated the importance of promoting gender equality and the active participation of women as indispensable partners to men.
The President of the National Assembly of Timor-Leste praised Cambodia’s progress andCambodia’s abundant natural resources. She expressed her gratitude to Cambodia, especially Samdech Techo Hun Sen, for supporting Timor-Leste in its accession to ASEAN.
She also stated that supporting Cambodia would be a new opportunity for Timor-Leste’s participation in building peace, sustainable development and inclusiveness in the region and the world.
The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia told her counterparts that Cambodia always adheres to the principle of peaceful coexistence and respect for international law.
