The National Bank of Cambodia to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to attract international tourism through cross-border payment system connectivity with various countries

The National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism have been working together to attract international tourists from various countries in the region and the world.

The two institutions reached the deal during a working meeting between Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of NBC, and H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism on July, 16, 2025 at the National Bank of Cambodia.

The move will be done through cross-border payment system connectivity with many countries, the launch of the Tourist Bakong program, and the launch of the Preah Srei Ishanvarman (S.S.R) Economic and Monetary Museum.

The Bank Governor spoke about her support for the development of Cambodia’s tourism sector through financial innovations and new initiatives, like connecting cross-border payment systems with many countries, launching the Tourist Bankong program, and launching the Preah Srei Isanvarman (S.S.R.) Economic and Monetary Museum in Phnom Penh, and the upcoming project to launch the S.S.R. Museums in Battambang and Kampot provinces.

She also highlighted the importance of collecting and compiling tourism statistics and affirmed her willingness to cooperate and support in improving the quality of tourism data effectively.

For his part, H.E. Huot Hak mentioned the remarkable progress of the tourism sector while the country has enjoyed peace and political stability.

He also praised the contribution of the National Bank of Cambodia in promoting tourism by launching new financial products that facilitate tourist payments and help promote Cambodia’s tourism potential.
