Cambodians throughout the country have forever remembered the great sacrifice for the nation made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and now President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
A mass meeting was organized to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the day when Samdech Techo Hun Sen had risked his life making a historical journey that had resulted in the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge regime.
The Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, presided over the event in Koh Thmor village, Tonluong commune, Memot district in Tbaung Khmom province on Thursday June 20, 2024 with the participation of senior government officials, members of the Cambodian armed forces and police, students and ordinary people. Senior Vietnamese officials were also on hand.
47 years ago, on June 20, 1977, Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the age of 25 and four other loyal comrades-in-arms had risked their lives escaping to Vietnam to seek support for national liberation. About three million Cambodians were killed during the Khmer Rouge regime of Pol Pot due to forced labor, brutal executions and starvation.
The Cambodian people have come out of the brutal genocidal regime of Pol Pot and his cronies since then.
