Cambodia continues to strengthen urban resilience and is committed to ensuring a strong, sustainable community

On Monday, April 21, 2025, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions and Chair of the ESCAP National Committee, delivered a Country Statement on “Cambodia’s Vision, Policies and Experiences in Sustainable and Climate-Friendly Development” with Agenda 2 of the 81st Annual Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

In his statement, Dr. Ly Thuch underlined the importance of the theme of the 81st Annual Session of UN-ESCAP, as cities and urban populations in Asia and the Pacific are growing rapidly but are facing challenges including climate change, natural disasters, development gaps and resource scarcity, which require countries in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen cooperation to address these issues.

The Senior Minister Ly Thuch mentioned Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister’s high recommendation that “ensuring a strong, sustainable, and inclusive community begins with building and connecting smart, resilient, and sustainable cities.

He also stressed that Cambodia's experience is an important lesson for countries in the Asia-Pacific region and called on all countries to increase cooperation and solidarity to increase resilience, climate change, and sustainability in urban development.
