Cambodia and Malaysia have mulled over the possibility of concluding an agreement on enhancing military cooperation between the two countries

The two sides discussed the issue during a meeting in Phnom Penh on Monday April 21, 2025 between General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and General Tan Sri Dato' Wira Mohamad Hafizuddin Binchantan, Commander-in-Chief of the Malaysian Army.

General Vong Pisen highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two countries' armies even though the Ministries of National Defense of the two countries have not yet signed a bilateral agreement.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Royal Army hoped that the visit of the high-ranking Malaysian delegation to Cambodia would further strengthen and expand the military relations between the two countries. He also spoke of the visit to Malaysia of Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet in 2024, that has helped the armies of the two countries to continue to enhance close cooperation, especially on training, exchange of delegations, information sharing, and on preventing terrorism, combating transnational crimes.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Malaysian Army expressed his desire to see Cambodia and Malaysia sign a defense agreement to give new momentum to the bilateral relationship between the two militaries. The Commander-in-Chief of the Malaysian Army promised to help push for a defense agreement between Cambodia and Malaysia to take shape soon.
