ASEAN Secretary-General attends 31st ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting and Related Meetings in Laos

H.E Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, on March 24, 2024, attended the 31st ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting and related meetings in Luang Prabang, Lao People's Democratic Republic. 

On the morning of March 24, 2024, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn attended the 31st ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting held in Luang Prabang under the chairmanship of her excellency Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Lao Tourism and Chairman of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council 2024. 

The meeting discussed the future direction of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council in ensuring a responsive and sustainable ASEAN and exchanged views on development. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Strategic Plan, which will be an important part of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. The meeting also congratulated Laos on its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2024 and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the ASCC priorities this year. In the afternoon of March 24th, H.E Kao Kim Hourn participated in the meeting between the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) and the specialized units of the ASCC of Laos. The meeting discussed emerging trends and challenges and made recommendations for the strategic planning of the ASCC, including digitalization, demographic change, climate change and stakeholder engagement.

The Secretary-General of ASEAN, together with her excellency Suanesavanh Vignaket, launched the ASCC Data Assessment and Monitoring System . The system is a web-based system developed by the ASEAN Secretariat to monitor the progress and progress of the ASCC- 2025 Roadmap, as well as relevant socio-cultural indicators. The launch also included a presentation of ASCC achievements and an ADME system, with the participation of ASCC Council Ministers, industry experts of the ASCC, and the media.
