Cambodian Premier: The Royal Government of the 7th Legislature continues to consider tourism as a priority sector that contributes to the socio-economic development of the country

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, said that the Royal Government of the 7th legislature continues to consider tourism as a priority sector that contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.

The point was made when Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet presided over the opening ceremony of the 8th River Festival in Siem Reap on March 16, 2024.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet further said that tourism has become an important driving force in the last 30 years to contribute to the economic growth of Cambodia to increase about 13 times from 1993-2023.

According to the Minister of Tourism, H.E SokSoken, Cambodia received a total of 5.45 million international tourists in 2023 and hoped that the number of international visitors to Cambodia may return as before the Covid-19 crisis by 2025.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet was optimistic that tourism will remain an important economic sector in creating employment opportunities, employment, income and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the first phase pentagonal strategy, especially contribute to achieving the vision of Cambodia as an upper middle income country by 2030 and a high income one by 2050.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister highly appreciated the Ministry of Tourism under the leadership of H.E Sok Soken, which for more than 6 months has been working to launch new strategic plans, especially the strategic initiative "increase 5 developments 3" and some other sharp reform direction. 

He also urged all relevant ministries and institutions to devise strategies that promote gatherings such as meetings, Vipassana sessions, sports, and other events in Siem Reap, aiming to bolster the success of the special programme 'Visit Siem Reap 2024' and coming years.
