Cambodian Prime Minister instructs the Ministry of Culture to prepare a document to include Sangkran in the World Heritage List next year

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, instructed the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to prepare documents to include "Sangkran on the World Heritage List in 2025.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of facilities in Mony Ratanaream pagoda in Pursat province on March 31, 2024, the Prime Minister said that the inclusion of Cambodia on the list of world heritage would help remove all confusions in people about Sangkran due to the similar culture. He further said that people’s concern was reasonable as they wanted to protect their own culture. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that Cambodia would protect its culture.

Samdech Hun Manet added that Cambodia was also preparing to inscribe other intangible cultural heritage on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List of UNESCO. He said that the Cambodian scarf, or Krama in Khmer mother tongue, would be proposed this year to be included on UNESCO’s list.
