Cambodian Prime Minister: Strong digital connectivity in ASEAN requires strong security

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, said that ensuring strong digital connectivity in the ASEAN region requires the strengthening of digital security and proper regulations.

The remarks were made when Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met with H.E GOBIND SINGH DEO, Minister of Digital Affairs of Malaysia, on March 11, 2024. The Minister of Digital Affairs of Malaysia was in Phnom Penh for the digital government forum.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that the organization of the forum was very important for all participants to find ways to connect digitally at present and in the future. The Premier further said that the forum would be a platform for further use in ASEAN digital affairs to build and develop digital infrastructure and connect ASEAN countries.

For his part, H.E GOBIND SINGH DEO praised the successful organization of the Digital Government Forum and the 1st Cambodia-International Digital Government and Digital Technology Exhibition by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia.

The Malaysian Minister hoped that the forum would continue to be held in all ASEAN countries so that ASEAN participants could meet for discussions to ensure digital connectivity.

The Minister informed Samdech Thipadei that the forum has provided many benefits to the participants, and especially to enhance the relationship between government and government and the private-private sector. The Minister expressed optimism that Cambodia would achieve the building of a digital economy and society in the future, and other ASEAN countries were ready to join in the promotion of the digital sector, digital government, digital economy towards building society with digital security protection against cyber and cross-border crimes.
