Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol Asks EU Representatives to Encourage Investors to invest in the Kingdom

The Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, wished that EU representatives encouraged more European investors to come and do business in Cambodia.

His Excellency Sun Chanthol expressed the wish during a meeting with Mr Peteris Ustubs, Director for Middle East Asia and the Pacific of the European Union's Department of International Partnership and H.E Igor Driesmans, EU Ambassador to Cambodia, on March 11, 2024.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol thanked the European Union for its support for the development of bilateral cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Investment cooperation between Cambodia and the European Union is still limited, amounting to about US$ 540 million from 62 investment projects from 1994 to the present. The Deputy Prime Minister informed the EU representative about Cambodia's position extended welcome to all investors from the European Union to the kingdom, where they could invest in several sectors. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Cambodia has already received investors from countries including the United States, South Korea, Japan, China and many other countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol briefed EU representatives on the government's national development plans to support the private sector, including in the construction of national roads, expressways, airports, ports, and in particular the comprehensive master plan and Cambodia logistics 2023-2033. There are 174 projects that private companies from the EU can examine the possibility of investment. 

For his part, Mr. Peteris Ustubs, Director for Middle East Asia and the Pacific of the European Union's Department of International Partnership praised the Cambodian government for its achievements in national and economic development. He said that the EU's current focus was on green and technology development projects.
