H.E Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and H.E SANTIPHAB PHOMVIHANE, Minister of Finance of Laos, inked the agreement in Phnom Penh on Wednesday December 4, 2024 in the presence of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E SONEXAY SIPHANDONE, Prime Minister of Laos. The Cambodia-Laos Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement is the 12th Agreement that Cambodia has signed with a partner jurisdiction and is one of the major achievements made by the Royal Government of the 7th mandate led by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister. Cambodia has been negotiating the same agreement with a number of other partner jurisdictions, such as Japan, Myanmar, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Qatar. The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement is not only designed to eliminate double taxation, but also contributes to increasing foreign direct investment and enhancing international competitiveness and giving confidence and certainty to foreign investors by providing clear rules for determining taxing rights between the parties to the agreement, exempting or easing the application of certain types of taxes, eliminating tax discrimination, providing a mechanism for resolving tax disputes, and addressing tax evasion and tax base reduction orders through the exchange of information between the parties to the agreement. H.E Sonexay SIPHANDONE, Prime Minister of Laos, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from December 4 to 5, 2024 at the invitation of the Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
