The Prime Minister praises the fruitful result of the decentralization and de-concentration reforms

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, told a high-level forum held on Tuesday March 18 that implementation of decentralization and decentralization reform policies over the past two decades has contributed to local economic development and brought services closer to the people.

The high-level forum served as a venue of meeting between the national government and sub-national administrations to discuss the progress of   Decentralization and de-concentration Reforms toward achieving Cambodia’s Vision 2050.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that based on the positive achievements of sub-national reforms, the Royal Government has expanded the scope of the reform to cover all sub-national administrations. He said that the move was done through the preparation of a strategic framework on decentralization and decentralization reforms in 2005, the preparation of a law on administrative management of the capital, provinces, cities, districts, and khans in 2008, and the election of councils of the capital, province, city, district, and khan in 2009, and the implementation of a sub-national administration management system in accordance with the principles of democratic development.

He said that through the implementation of the policy of decentralization and de-centralization reform over the past two decades, the institutional structure, and the capacity of sub-national administrations at all three levels have been improved.
