UNAIDS Lauds Cambodia for remarkable progress in all sectors

On Tuesday May 13th 2025, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received Ms. Winnie Byanyima, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNAIDS, at the Peace Palace.

Ms. Winnie Byanyima expressed her appreciation for Cambodia’s remarkable progress in all sectors and outstanding achievements.

The Under-Secretary-General particularly lauded the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in its response to HIV and AIDS. In addition, the Under-Secretary-General highly appreciated Cambodia as a country that has launched an ambitious strategic plan to combat HIV and AIDS. She reiterated that UNAIDS would continue to support Cambodia in further implementing the strategic plan, and the United Nations will continue to partner with Cambodia to jointly achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the United Nations for its contribution to socio-economic development in Cambodia and highly appreciated UNAIDS for its active participation in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Cambodia.

The Cambodian Prime Minister briefed the attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia in the fight against HIV and AIDS through the introduction of many policies and strategic plans, and recently, Cambodia has just launched the National Policy to end HIV and AIDS and the Sustainable Development of the AIDS Program for 2023-2028. He also said that Cambodia has paid attention to reducing the spread of HIV and AIDS, since 1996, the HIV infection rate has decreased significantly.
