Information Minister: Journalists are a priority group that the Government has taken into account in implementing the National Strategy on Informal Economic Development 2023-2028

The Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation have agreed to work together on the implementation of the National Strategy for Informal Economic development 2023-2028.

The two ministries reached the agreement at a meeting jointly held at the Ministry of Information on Monday April 29, with His Excellency Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information on the one side and His Excellency Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation on the other. 

His Excellency Neth Pheaktra expressed full support for the Strategy and thanked the Royal Government for the adoption of the National Strategy for Informal Economic Development, which would benefit journalists in doing their professional jobs. The Minister of Information said that nowadays, there have been about 10,000 journalists in Cambodia, and of the number, about 6,300 have been issued press cards, which would formally help them to benefit from the strategy. His Exellency Neth Peaktra said he would continue to work with all relevant institutions for the successful implementation of the National Strategy on Informal Economic Development 2023-2028.

The Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, H.E Hem Vandy, who is also the Chairman of the Coordination Committee for Informal Economic Development, said that the National Strategy for Informal Economic Development 2023-2028 was officially launched by the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, in October 2023.

He added that Journalists have been identified as one of the 15 target groups to benefit from the strategy, and the Informal Economic Coordinating Committee would continue to work with the Ministry of Information on the registration of all journalists so they could benefit from the policy in terms of social protection.
