Senior Minister Ly Thuch holds bilateral meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Fiji to seek support for globalization of Ottawa Convention

Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Deputy Chairman of the Mine Authority and President of the 2024 Ottawa Convention, on April 23, 2024, at UN-ESCAP Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, met with her excellency Lenora Qereqeretabua, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Fiji, to seek support for the globalization of the Convention against Mine Action (Ottawa) while Cambodia will chair and host the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World from November 25 to 29, 2024.

Senior Minister Ly Thuch outlined Cambodia's three priority goals as chair of the 2024 Ottawa Convention, including the globalization of the Convention on Mine Action and Mine Action.

In the globalization of the Convention, Cambodia seeks to support and mobilize countries that have not yet become States Parties to the Convention, including three countries, including Tonga, Macedonia and the Pacific Islands.

Senior Minister Ly Thuch thanked Fiji for supporting the implementation of the Ottawa Convention, a humanitarian convention to eradicate anti-personnel landmines.

On behalf of Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Senior Minister Ly Thuch invited the leaders of the Republic of Fiji to attend the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit, which Cambodia will host in Siem Reap in November 2024.

In response, her excellency Lenora Qereqeretabua said Fiji welcomed Cambodia's proposal to demine the entire Pacific region and expressed support for Cambodia's presidency for the 2024 Ottawa Convention.
