Mine Authority Outlines Cambodia's Efforts and Mechanisms for Promoting Globalization of the Ottawa Convention at a Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland

Senior Minister Ly Thuch, President of the 2024 Ottawa Convention, chaired a meeting of the Universalization Coordinating Group of the Ottawa Convention to discuss strategic planning and implementation measures to promote the globalization of the Ottawa Convention, focusing on decision-making. The demining of the Pacific, the accession of the target states and the steps towards the accession of other designated states.

The meeting was held on February, 29th 2024 in Geneva with the participation of representatives of member countries and international organizations including Cambodia, Australia, Belgium, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and representatives of ISU, ICBL, ICRC. .

H.E Ly Thuch spoke about the chairmanship of the 2024 Convention of Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, which set out goals, mechanisms and plans for globalization, lobbying and mobilization.

The meeting expressed its appreciation and support for Cambodia's efforts in the globalization of the Ottawa Convention. The meeting further encouraged the preparation of some necessary ideas and information to be disseminated at meetings, conferences and other events.

There are 33 countries that have not yet become parties to the Ottawa Convention, and at the meeting in January 2024, the meeting set out and set goals for some countries to be globalized, including Bahrain, Laos, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nepal, Tonga, Vietnam, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lebanon, Mongolia and Singapore.
