H.E Chhay Thorn, Senior Minister and Minister of Planning and Chairman of the Technical Committee for the 2019 Cambodian Census, said that the dissemination of the census data to all data users at the national and sub-national levels is important to increase the understanding of the importance of statistics in development programs as well as the proper use of statistics.
The remarks were made by when H.E Chhay Thorn presided over the launching ceremony of the census results of the Capital-Provincial Census 2019 on November 1, 2021 in Kampong Thom province.
H.E Chhay Thorn further said the Royal Government's Rectangular Strategy has contributed to maintaining macroeconomic stability in the short and medium term, adding that on behalf of the Royal Government, he provided some more recommendations in order to strengthen the 2019 census, as well as the work of preparing and managing statistical work on some important points. It is also to use the census data as reliable quality data, extensively formulate policies, decisions and to support sustainable development, measure the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and other programs, he said.
H.E Chhay Thorn encouraged the Statistic officials to pay attention to training, capacity building and human resource development on a regular basis, because the work of statistics is a difficult and complex work involving all areas, requiring training and practical experience in doing census, which is also practical training.
