Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has announced the full reopening of the country, starting from November 1, 2021.
The Cambodian Prime Minister made the announcement at a ceremony to launch vaccination campaign for children aged 5 on Monday November 1, affirming that Cambodia has now fully reopened in all sectors. He also called for continued protection against the Covid-19 by strictly complying with the health and administrative measures issued by the government.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen owed the successful reopening of the country to four factors. The first factor, he said, was that Cambodia has done a successful vaccination of both the basic and booster doses, elaborating that the vaccination pointed to the community immunity, which has helped to reduce the death rates and the severity of the spread or the infection. He said that the government’s efforts to strengthen and expand the Covid-19 treatment in anticipation of eventual large-scale pandemic was the second factor, adding that the third factor was that relevant authorities have better understand the disease and the methods of controlling and preventing the large-scale spread. The Premier went on to say that the fourth factor was the public knowledge of the Covid-19 and of how to protect themselves and living in a new normal norm.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also spoke of the government’s efforts to fight the disease, by pointing to four phases in the move. In the first phase, from March 2020 to October 2021, he said, measures to prevent the Covid-19 community transmission were taken, and from November 2020 to February 2021, controlling the outbreak of the disease in the community was the second phase. Samdech Techo Hun Sen further said that from February 2021 until now, the government started to build community resilience, by launching vaccination campaigns and controlling the Covid-19 community transmission. And now, he affirmed, Cambodia has entered the fourth phase by fully reopening the kingdom in all sectors.
The Cambodian Prime Minister also drew attention to the percentage of deaths, saying that this was the most concern as the rate was higher than in some countries.
