Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet: The Royal Government Efforts to Improve the Judiciary and Solve Extrajudicial Problems

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, SamdechThipadei Hun Manet, said that the Royal Government has been working to improve the justice system and resolve extrajudicial issues.

Addressing a meeting with Cambodians overseas living in Australia and New Zealand on Sunday March 3, 2024, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manetfurther said that the judiciary reform has been listed as the fifth point in the policies and strategies of the royal government of the seventh mandate. SamdechThipadei Hun Manet told the gathering that the royal government has also established an out-of-court dispute resolution authority to help people as the courts have been facing a backlog of cases. Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister added that the authorities have been tasked to resolve disputes out of court is to resolve civil and commercial disputes as well as other disputes and not to force people to use this new service and people have every right to choose another mechanism to resolve disputes.

Out-of-court dispute resolution mechanisms have been strongly promoted in the Royal Government of the seventh mandate, led by Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet. The Non-Judicial Dispute Resolution Authority was established on November 2, 2023 to help reduce congestion in court cases, resolve disputes closer to the people and ensure harmony.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet once mentioned the benefits of establishing an out-of-court dispute resolution authority for the people by adding new options for resolving disputes over existing mechanisms. The Prime Minister has repeated that the resolution of disputes outside the court system will help reduce congestion in the court system, and the final decision in this dispute resolution mechanism has the same legal weight as the final verdict of the court. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manetand his spouse have been in Melbourne, Australia from March 1 to 5 for a special summit to celebrate the 50 years of cooperation between Australia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
