The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Sar Sokha says that the law on road traffic has to be firmly enforced

H.E. Sar Sokha, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Road Safety stressed the need to tighten law enforcement on road traffic to reduce traffic accidents, especially to reduce the rate of daily deaths and injuries.

H.E. Sar Sokha made the statement when he presided over the 15th National Road Safety Week held at the Battambang Provincial Stadium in Battambang province on May 8, 2024.

The Minister of Interior said that traffic accidents have continued to rise alarmingly every year over the past 15 years.

The Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, who was on a recent visit to Switzerland and Germany, said that by 2023, Switzerland, with a population of over 8 million, saw more than 40 people were killed in road accidents, while Germany with a population of more than 80 million had only about 150 deaths, while Cambodia, with a population of more than 16 million, had more than 1,000 deaths from road accidents.

The Minister of Interior called on stakeholders, schools, families and communities to continue to support the enforcement of the law on road traffic.
