The European Union provides US$ 13 million for the construction of the third phase of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant

The European Union has provided US$ $ 13 million, to support the construction of the third phase of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant, which aims to expand water supply to Phnom Penh and other areas.

The provision of the assistance was made on the occasion of her excellency Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnership, accompanied H.E Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, inspected the Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant on March 13, 2024. 

Speaking at a press conference on March 13, her excellency Jutta Urpilainen lauded the strong partnership between the French Development Agency, the European Investment Bank and the European Union as a strong European team, especially in the field of clean water. She also highlighted the importance of access to clean water as an important fundamental right and a key factor in contributing to sustainable development in Cambodia.

H.E Hem Vandy said during the inspection of Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant that is a testament to the commitment to supply quality, safe, sustainable and affordable water that is necessary for both daily household use and attracting investment as an important factor for Cambodia's development.
