The Minister of Information says that the freedom of the press is an essential catalyst for the socio-economic development of Cambodia

At a press conference held in the Ministry on Tuesday April 30 to present the manual on the State of Press Freedom in Cambodia, the Minister of Information, His Excellency NethPheaktra said that in recent years, no journalists have been killed or imprisoned in Cambodia because of their professional practice.

His Excellency Neth Pheaktra added that based on the results of the survey, 95% of the respondents agreed that the diverse availability of the media in Cambodia today has indicated that the freedom of the press and freedom of expression has been enhanced, while 79.8% of journalists claimed that they have felt confident and secure in carrying out their profession as journalists in gathering information from various sources for writing, production and dissemination. 

At the same time, 99.7% of the total survey participants said that it was important for journalists to respect professional ethics of journalists, while 92.1% supported the implementation of the procedure, stressed the Minister.

His Excellency Neth Pheaktra also stated that the freedom of the press was an essential catalyst for the socio-economic development of Cambodia, as the freedom is guaranteed by the Cambodian constitution, the Law on the Cambodian Press and other legal documents in force.
