The Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations- ASEAN, had separate meeting with ambassadors of a number of ASEAN member countries to discuss more ways of strengthening cooperatio

H.E Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, met with H.E Kiya Masahiko, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday Aprile 17.

The two sides exchanged views on ASEAN-Japan relations, especially following the outcome of the ASEAN-Japan 50th Anniversary Summit in December 2023. Both sides also discussed preparations for the participation of the ASEAN Secretary-General in the Ministerial Meeting of the Council for Organization for Cooperation and Development in early May in France at the invitation of The Prime Minister of Japan and the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the preparations for the ASEAN Secretary General’s working visit to Japan in May. On the afternoon of the same day, Ms. Phantipha Iamsudha Ekarohit, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, presented her credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The ASEAN Secretary-General reaffirmed the readiness of the ASEAN Secretariat to work closely with the Ambassador and Thailand's Permanent Mission to ASEAN to support ASEAN's work towards achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and beyond 2025.

The ASEAN Secretary-General thanked Thailand for its contribution to building the ASEAN Community, especially as a facilitator for sustainable development cooperation and for the ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Partnership.

The ASEAN Secretary-General acknowledged Thailand's role as host of several ASEAN Center of Excellence and hoped that the ASEAN Center for Public Health and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED) would be operational soon. H.E Kao Kim Hourn also highlighted the important role of the ASEAN Permanent Representative Committee in the work of ASEAN and thanked the ASEAN Member States, including Thailand, for their continued support for the strengthening of the ASEAN Secretariat.
