Cambodia and the United States of America will meet to discuss reciprocal tariffs

According to a press release of the Ministry of Commerce on April 10, 2025, an inter-ministerial-institutional working group will be formed and led by H.E Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

The press release said that the Royal Government of Cambodia, with the Ministry of Commerce and relevant ministries and institutions as its executive bodies, have been continuing to monitor the progress of the implementation of the US reciprocal tariffs and preparing to develop a mechanism to find a suitable solution with the US.

The press release further said that Royal Government of Cambodia received a positive response from the United States side on the request to open negotiations to find a common solution after the Royal Government issued an immediate response through a letter from Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, dated April 4, 2025, and a letter from Her excellency Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, dated April 4, 2025, expressing goodwill and requesting negotiations to find a common solution.

The press release stressed Cambodia is ready to reduce tariffs to 5% from 35% on 19 items of US goods imported into Cambodia.

According to a White House announcement on April 9, 2025, President Donald J. Trump announced the suspension of the implementation of tariffs on Cambodia and many other countries for 90 days.
