Defense Minister asks France to expand military training to more Cambodian troops

Cambodia has asked the French side to examine the possibility of to provide more military training courses to members of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces

His Excellency Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, made the request at a meeting in Phnom Penh on Tuesday April 22, 2025 with Mr. JACQUES PELLET, French Ambassador to Cambodia. The Minister said that the proposed training courses could be organized either in France or in Cambodia.

General Tea Seiha spoke of the long-standing relationship and cooperation between Cambodia and France and said that Cambodia and France have also made steady progress in implementing the existing cooperation.

The Minister of National Defense also informed the French Ambassador about the modernization of the military structure under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. General Tea Seiha also asked France to send military instructors to participate in training at the National Defense University, the Institute of Health, and the Thmat Pong Military Academy.

For his part, the French Ambassador stated that France has always provided support to the Peacekeeping Command Center, the Thmat Pong Military Academy, and provided training support at institutions. According to the French ambassador, approximately 400 Cambodian military officers have received training in France over the past 30 years.
