ASEAN Secretary-General attends ASEAN Future Forum and Meets with Vietnamese leaders

H.E Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Future Forum, initiated and organized by Vietnam under the theme "Towards a Rapid and Sustainable Growth of the ASEAN Community" "People-centered" in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on April 23, 2024.

In his remarks, the ASEAN Secretary-General highlighted the role of the ASEAN Future Forum, a forum for ASEAN and its partners to share new ideas and policy recommendations, stressing that the appropriate timing of the forum to consider the future, especially as ASEAN is shaping the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and strategic planning of this vision.

In the morning of the same day, H.E Kao Kim Hourn paid a courtesy call on H.E Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The two sides discussed key issues on the ASEAN agenda, including the formulation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the four strategic plans, the progress of Timor-Leste’s process towards full membership in ASEAN and providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar.

In the afternoon, Secretary-General of ASEAN, met with H.E Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. 

The two sides discussed ways to accelerate efforts to build the ASEAN Community to strengthen the ASEAN Center and ASEAN Solidarity at a time when regional architecture is evolving. The two sides also discussed maritime cooperation as well as other important regional and international issues. Afterwards, H.E Kao Kim Hourn met with H.E Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Labor, Disability and Social Affairs of Vietnam. The two sides discussed ASEAN priorities related to the socio-cultural sector.

In addition, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn allowed Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, President of the Indonesian Foreign Policy Community to meet on the occasion of the ASEAN Future Forum. The two sides exchanged views on developments in the region as well as finding ways to enhance the ASEAN vision on the Indo-Pacific region.
