RNK- Phnom Penh, April, 25th ,2024-

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, said that in the context of peace and political stability, Cambodia has moved closer to eliminating all forms of malaria by 2025.

In a message on the occasion of the National Malaria Day under the theme "promoting equity, health, gender equality and human rights to fight malaria," the Prime Minister said that although malaria still affects people, Cambodia has been on the right track by actively participating with the world in supporting the achievement of goals. The Prime Minister further said that through the efforts and strong commitment by all relevant authorities, the national strategic plan for malaria eradication 2011-2025, which initiated by former Prime Minister, SamdechTecho Hun Sen, has been well implemented.

In the context of peace, political stability, freedom, unity, dignity and progress throughout the country, Cambodia is moving closer to eradicating all forms of malaria by 2025, stressed Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, adding that significant achievements included the successful prevention of malaria drug resistance since 2016, continued decline in the number of malaria cases   to 2038 cases in 2023   and no deaths from the disease.

However, there are still major challenges that must be addressed together and efforts are needed to accelerate the implementation of the second phase of malaria eradication action plan 2021-2025, especially to focus on providing diagnostic and treatment services for the remaining malaria cases in remote areas, where poor people, pregnant women, young children and indigenous peoples are at high risk, added the Premier.
