The Kingdom of Cambodia and the United State of America has met in their preliminary trade negotiations.
This was made public in a press release issued on April 16, 2025 by the Royal Government of Cambodia Spokesperson’s Unit.
The press release said that the meeting took place via videoconference and the Cambodian side was led by Deputy Prime Minister, H.E Sun Chanthol and the US side by His Excellency Jamieson Greer, Chief US Trade Representative.
The press release further said that the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral trade and investment cooperation and stressed the importance of the willingness to engage in open and constructive dialogue as the basis for continuing negotiations towards achieving equitable and balanced trade relations. It added that the two sides agreed to continue discussions in the near future. The Royal Government of Cambodia Spokesperson’s Unit’s press release said that Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who is also first Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, was joined by Cambodian Minister of Commerce, her excellency Cham Nimul and senior officials of the working group for the coordination of bilateral trade and investment relations between Cambodia and the United States.
The meeting was in response to a letter of Samedech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to His Excellency President Donald J. Trump dated April 4, 2025, expressing his goodwill to open trade negotiations with the United States.
The Royal Government, headed by Samdech Thipadei Hun Mane as Prime Minister, will continue to work with the US side to achieve a mutually beneficial trade and investment ties.
