The Cambodia’s Senate convenes its first session for the fifth term under the high presidency of the King

The Senate on Wednesday April 3 convened its first session for the fifth term under the auspicious of His Majesty Samdech Preah Baromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Senate is the supreme body of the nation as enshrined in the Constitution. 

The Senate is the legislative body that contributes to ensuring legal security by reviewing and passing laws. In particular, the Senate is the steering wheel and compass of local democracy.

The Senate of each legislature is elected. 

The number of senators is half the members of the National Assembly members, with two senators are    appointed by the King and two other elected by the National Assembly.

The Senate was elected for the fifth term on February 25, 2024. 

There were four political parties competing in the Senate election: The Cambodian People's Party, the Khmer Will Party, the National Forces Party and the royalist FUNCINPEC Party.

The CPP won 55 seats and the Khmer Will Party three seats.
