The Cambodian Prime Minister, said that mine action remains a priority sector for the Royal Government and Cambodia continues to work to achieve its target.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, made the remarks when he met with development partners and the private sector who support the Royal Government on mine action in Cambodia, on Tuesday, April, 8th.
The Cambodian Prime Minister expressed his deep thanks for the support and important contributions from all relevant parties, including United Nations agencies, development partners and the private sector, in reducing the serious impact of mines and explosive remnants of war in Cambodia.
The Cambodian Prime Minster highlighted Cambodia’s notable achievements, including clearing a total of more than 3000 square kilometers of suspected landmines and unexploded ordnance, reducing the casualty rate to less than 50 people per year, and declaring 15 provinces a mine-free province.
The Cambodian Premier emphasized that these achievements have ensured the safety of millions of people and have steadily improved their livelihoods.
He also encouraged all relevant parties to continue to cooperate, support, participate and pay attention to mine clearance work, mine hazard education, rehabilitation assistance for mine victims, post-mine clearance community development, strengthening technical capacity and equipment, as well as international cooperation.
