Cambodia has received support from Laos for the implementation of Funan-Techo canal project

As the Chairman of the Mekong River Commission, H.E Thongloun Sisoutlith, President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, expressed his support for the Funan-Techo Canal project in a meeting with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate in Phnom Penh on Tuesday April, 23rd.

The Funan-Techo canal project has become one of the topics discussed during a meeting between Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Lao President, on Tuesday, April, 23rd2024.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen's social media post, the canal project plays a very important role for connecting the inland rivers to the sea of Cambodia.

Laos' support is an important part, as Laos is a member of the Mekong River Commission, if any decision is required from the countries along the Mekong.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that the Funan-Techo canal project would provide water to people along the canal for farming and daily consumption. 

The canal will also relieve floods during the rainy season and to increase freshwater fish population, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
