Cambodia plans to renovate the existing railways into high-speed rail way

The Kingdom of Cambodia planned to renovate the existing railways into high-speed rail way.

H.E Peng Pornea, Minister of Public Works and Transport outlined the plan in a press conference last Friday.

Regarding the railway development project in Cambodia, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, said that Cambodia has already studied and prepared a plan. The railway development plan in Cambodia is divided into two phases with the intermediate phase starting from 2023 to 2027 and the long-term one from 2028 to 2033, stressed the Minister.

H.E Peng Por Nea, said that in the medium term, Cambodia has three railway development projects, which have focused on transforming the current two lines between Phnom Penh and the Sihanoukville town and between Phnom Penh and Poipet town in northern Banteay Meanchey province. 

The Minister of Public Works further said that the other projects were to build a railway connecting Phnom Penh to the new Techo International Airport and connecting the new Siem Reap International Airport to Siem Reap town.

The Minister added that as for the long term phase from 2028 to 2033, Cambodia has 5 railway development projects, that include the construction of Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh-Poipet high-speed railways and the construction of Phnom Penh-Bavet one.
